Best Gym in OKC | Serving Our Communities

This content was written for Colaw Fitness

When you picture the best gym in OKC in your mind, what do you see? Are you picturing a group of locals serving dinner at a homeless shelter? If not, you must not be picturing Colaw Fitness. We love to serve our communities wherever we are. Whether in our hometown of Bartlesville, OK or our newest community in Arlington, TX, we are here to serve. Now, this may be through things like serving at homeless shelters. Or it could even be as simple as talking to a member about their struggle with anxiety. Whereas other gyms might build a new location and simply use it to make money, we’re here to serve.

What does that look like for the best gym in OKC, you might ask? On a daily basis, we try to create an environment where our members feel a sense of peace. For some this might be a place just to let off steam. To others, it may be a safe place from the turmoil at home. For example, we were once told by a member that Colaw Fitness was the only place that he wasn’t bullied. This breaks our hearts, but also encourages us to move forward. For this reason, we have partnered with Justin Wren and Fight For the Forgotten. Alongside its international water initiatives, they also create anti-bullying curriculum. This curriculum is called Heroes in Waiting. It signifies that every person has an opportunity to stand against bullying. This is simply one way that we want to make a positive impact on our communities.

Our mission is to make Jesus famous and to change lives. Now, we are aware of the strong sense of community that He instilled in His church. A healthy community is imperative to not only safety, but also to personal growth. Hence, we want to create a community in the best gym in OKC where people encourage one another to grow. This could be growth towards physical health. Likewise, it could also be growth in many other avenues. These could be also be mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Community can become a strong catalyst for change. We become so by carrying the burdens of our neighbor. Galatians 6:2 says, “Carry each other’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Paul encourages us to love our neighbor when it is the least convenient.

Now, this could look very different depending on the person. This might be our staff taking time to step aside and speak to them individually. Similarly, this could simply be greeting another member by name. Whatever it is, our goal is to be a community that fosters change to our greatest potential. Our favorite thing to see is when an older member takes a young person under their wing. We often see mentor relationships forming at the gym, and we love it. On one hand, it is the responsibility of the older member to train their wisdom into the next generation. On the other, it is the responsibility of the young person to receive wisdom from the older generations. This creates a dynamic pairing in which no stone goes unturned.

By beginning with mentorship towards physical health at the best gym in OKC, they open up the other disciplines. Exercise might just be the spark to open up conversation about anxiety the young person is feeling. Th older member then gets to speak directly into it with the wisdom they were given years ago. Henceforth, that conversation might lead (hopefully we might add) to questions the young person might have about Jesus. As a result, the two begin to build a mentoring relationship where nothing is off the table. Wisdom and growth are easily accessible by the younger generation. Similarly, the older generation has the opportunity to share the wisdom they have acquired. These are the types of community relationships we hope to stimulate at the best gym in OKC.

This is not at all to discredit those that simply want a space for themselves. We see this very frequently at Colaw Fitness. In his first letter to the church in Corinth, Paul teaches an idea that we hold to. He says, “I have become all things to all men.” Similarly, at Colaw Fitness we aim to be whatever the public needs us to be without sacrificing who we are. If a member is simply looking for a place to have a quiet moment to themselves, we don’t stand in their way. Therefore it creates exactly what the member needs when they need it. If another member needs us to be a motivating force in their life, we will do so all the same. This is an honor that we have been given by the communities that we serve.

Everything that we do is a labor of love. That is to say, it is not always easy. In fact, it rarely ever is. However, we do it all the same because we love our communities deeply. Hence, we would rather take the difficult road that will lead to the edification of our members. To edify traditionally means simply, “to build up.” Fortunately, this goes beyond the weight machines and treadmills. Admittedly, that is a major factor in the growth of a person that joins us. Yet, it is certainly not the only thing we are concerned with.

In conclusion, it is our responsibility to love and serve our communities. It is a duty of delight that we have been given. As a result, we are certainly concerned with all aspects of growth that a human might undertake. We hope that they will do so by signing up at the best gym in OKC. However, we give this to them as a choice they are free to make. We are ready and willing to do whatever is necessary to make sure that our members are taken care of.
